Successes - Summary

We have created many powerful and aesthetic custom database software
applications. Intuitive user interfaces, integrated email, audit trail,
voice recognition, Windows (2000, 98, NT, XP) API, image databases and processing, security, communications,
keyword searches, spreadsheet analysis, and file transfer are some
of the business processes included in these custom software applications.
Most of these systems were created with Visual Basic and Microsoft Access VBA, and used either Access or Microsoft SQL Server as the database.
Customer company productivities have been doubled, business process
times have been reduced dramatically, and strategic market positions
have been improved to the point of one customer being bought by another
major industry player.
Your company can experience the same results. Let us know what custom
database software, or technology based solutions your company needs.
Click the links to the left to view details of some of the systems that have been designed, built, and/or
managed and delivered by 21st Century Technologies, Inc. Note that many
of the systems listed were comprised of several system types. The numbers

1 real estate Internet application created
with Active Server Pages (ASP), VBScript (for data validation), Microsoft
Access database, ActiveX Data Objects (ADO) for database access, and
HTML that allows a user to select criteria for real estate property to buy (city,
size in sq. ft., # bedrooms, etc.), run a query on a database using
the selected criteria, and view basic information and an image of
the houses for sale that meet the criteria.
2 real estate Extranet applications (secure
company private network accessed via the internet) created with ASP,
VBScript (for client side data validation and calculations), Microsoft Access
database, ActiveX Data Objects (ADO) for database access, and HTML
to enter data and calculate all numbers and summaries for commercial and FHA real estate
loan applications. This application leveraged the power of client-side Javascript to minimize round
trips to the server resulting in maximum performance and a higher quality user experience.
2 online software licensing applications
- Using third party components, we created a custom ASP application that allowed users to license the software that
had been previously downloaded from our customer's site. It was database driven, and created a license key that was only
valid for the single computer that the user installed the original software on.
Successes - Professional Websites
Listed here are a few of the professional websites we've created:
-
21stsoft.com (this site), of course. It is ranked very high in the top search engines for our selected keywords, has all custom graphics, lists many of our successes, uses custom PayPal shopping cart to sell our products, has a search page...
-
Colorado Treasury Management Association - for the professional association, simple but clean and aesthetic.
-
Murder by the Book - a mystery bookstore site with the following features:
- Inventory lookup and secure shopping cart custom created using Microsoft Active Server Pages (ASP). This completely custom coded shopping cart incorporated ASP, Microsoft Access database application and allows
the user to easily search the inventory, select, and securely order
books from Murder by the Book. It employs the SSL protocol for secure
ordering from your browser to the web server, then a Verisign certificate
that secures the credit card email from the web server to Murder by
the Book. Here are a couple unsolicited customer comments:
-
"Your website is great--I really like the ease of
ordering after the author search. One of the best I have seen."
-
"Thanks
for shipping the books. I enjoyed the web page, it was real easy to
navigate and use. I've got it bookmarked to visit again."
- Book Club registration - both secure and non-secure. The non-secure method requires the customer to phone in their credit card information.
- Users can list their favorite mystery books, see those of others, and click on the author's name to perform an inventory search for that author
- Simple newsletter subscriptions - just enter your email address on any page.
- Tell-a-friend capability on all pages. This feature is also integrated into the inventory searches. When a user does a book search that they think a friend will be interested in, they can simply click a link and send the same book query to the friend. Click here to perform a mystery book search on 'Agatha' and note the yellow New image near the top.
- Autoresponder email. This email is sent to all site participants that provide their email to show them all capabilities of Murder by the Book online. Click here to see a picture of this aesthetic, html autoresponder email.
- All forms are validated using Javascript for required fields, correct email formats, etc. before submission to reduce user frustration.
-
Author Steve Jackson - for New York Times best-seller Steve Jackson.
Successes - Real Estate

We have doubled the productivities of real estate clients. Here
are a few of the real estate systems we've built:
-
See our Internet Applications page for Internet based real estate applications we've successfully completed.
- 1 large Business
Process Automation system (overall cost approx.
$400K) incorporating the following technologies: Windows NT 4.0, Delphi
2.0 custom applications, ESRI ArcView Geographical Information System
(GIS), Off the Shelf geographical databases, etc. 21st designed
the complete database and overall system to automate the process of
mortgage flood certifications and place the customer in a top market
position with respect to all of their nationwide competition.
21st assisted the customer in hiring several vendors to do the specialized
programming, then became the technical manager. Several system
components were custom coded by 21st to provide data processing, analysis,
and correction. Turnaround time for customer flood
certifications went from 4 - 24 hours to 25 seconds.
The company has since been bought by a major player in the industry,
due in part to the new computer system that dramatically improved
the company's product and service throughput.
- 1 software package automating the process of performing
commercial real estate appraisals.
This client reported that the software designed by 21st Century Technologies,
Inc. doubled their productivity and gross profits.
- 1 Property Management report engine for a
nationwide real estate property investment and management company.
This complex reporting tool fulfilled sophisticated user requirements
for information retrieval and provided information rollup to the following
levels of property detail: Lease -> Unit -> Building -> City
-> State -> Region.
- 1 commercial insurance marketing application for use by insurance agents
to increase sales based on real estate
information from local County databases.
Successes - Finance/Accounting

Some of these applications were created by 21st Century Technologies,
Inc. when other developers failed to deliver due to the complexity of the interface between the applications, and the calculations involved:
- 2 VB6 database applications - Accounts Payable and Bank Deposits - that interfaced to Great Plains Accounting and had several intricate reports.
- 1 database application that automates the creation
of Excel spreadsheet financial analysis. The database contained the
base information needed for the application. The application sent
data to Excel where sophisticated formulas and analysis are created
at runtime. This substantially reduced the effort to perform high
ended analysis, and allowed the customer to run many investment scenarios
in front of clients. Before the application was created, this wasn't
possible.
- 1 application automating the financial reporting
requirements of one of the largest real estate developers in the Denver
metro area. This software included an income projection report that
required a rollup of historical monthly/quarterly/yearly information
for projection into a 5 year sales projection report.
- 3 OLE Automation applications linking databases
to spreadsheets for the purpose of facilitating the analysis of financial
and pathology research information contained in the database.
- 1 custom accounting application.
Successes - Reports

All of the effort involved in creating database applications is basically
overhead. The benefit of this effort is the reporting - output - from
the system, like hardcopy reports, electronic files (excel, powerpoint,
Acrobat PDF files...), email notifications, automated faxes, etc. Here
are a few of the reporting applications we have created:
- Countless (>200) reports for all applications created by 21st
- 1 commercial reporting utility created in Microsoft
Access. This utility is a custom Wizard Add-In for the use of selecting
and filtering data, printing reports, and exporting the selected data.
This package was marketed by one of our existing clients.
- 1 report engine for a commercial software package
being marketed by a client that allows a user to select a report,
its parameters, when it should run, and where it should be output.
These reports can be set to run daily, weekly, bi-monthly, etc. The
outputs provided are spreadsheet, MS word, all available printers,
fax, and E-Mail.
- 1 application used by a brick manufacturing company
to track production, schedules, and inventories on hand. Factory employees
were paid from the information in the reports provided in this system.
Successes - Communications

7 custom email applications
that were tightly integrated into the rest of the custom database software
system and driven by system events.
3 custom communication applications within a Lead
and Client Management system for an investment company. It contained a
3 separate communication sub-systems linking headquarters with all of
the main Independent Sales Offices (ISO's):
Automatic transmission of data from remote offices
(created in Borland Delphi 2.0 using TurboPower Async Pro tools for
communications),
Automatic sensing of received data at the headquarters
office (Delphi, Async Pro), and
Automatic nightly fax-back verification to each
ISO (Windows DDE application written in MS Access to control WinFax
Pro) that contributed lead information that day.
Successes - Medical
Software, Inventory, Demo, etc.

The first system listed here was the basis for our customer completely changing
their business model due to its great success.
- 1 VB6 voice controlled commercial medical software product
that went through many RAD prototypes until the customer accepted
the User Interface. The system was then completed through version
2.0. It incorporated VB6, Data Dynamics ActiveReports, Infragistics
Developer Suite (9 of their ActiveX component products), Dragon Naturally
Speaking for voice control, MS Access 2000 database using ADO. Professional
installations were created using Wise InstallBuilder. Reports were
subsequently converted to Seagate Crystal Reports 8.0, and the database
and VB6 code were converted to use either SQL Server 7.0 or MS Access
2000. Due to the success of version 2, the company changed from a
service oriented company to a product driven company. 21st designed
and created all software through version 2.0.
- 1 chemical inventory system in MS Access
automating the effort to comply with the local Uniform Fire Code (UFC)
for a proposed silicon device manufacturing plant. This application
linked the UFC tables to the proposed installation data and allowed
comparison of unlimited scenarios to Fire Code tables across several
years. City approval for the project was gained soon after presentation
of the data created in the system.
- 1 Windows demonstration application created in
Delphi linking a database with an off the shelf Geographical Information
system (GIS). The client took this demo application (with
timers, screen savers, reports, etc.) to an industry conference where
it proved very effective in attracting customers. This demo initiated
approval for the main project.
- 1 Windows demonstration application created in
Delphi and successfully used by a client to obtain funding and gain market recognition.
