Successful
custom database software development projects require a strong plan of
attack. Tried and proven methodologies ensure success and mitigate the
myriad risks inherent in a technical endeavor such as this. Success means
placing the desired working system into operation on time and under budget.
Listed below are descriptions of two methodologies used by 21st Century
Technologies, Inc. Note that they are simplified, and don't include such
important details as code walkthroughs, backup plan, code appearance (comments,
etc.). They are provided here to assist in a basic understanding of the
custom software process.
A major portion of the effort involved in the software development process
exists to minimize risks. The two methodologies proven most effective,
and used most by 21st Century Technologies, Inc. are the Rapid Application
Development (RAD), and the Classical (Waterfall) methodologies. They are
both described below. The end of this page contains a glossary of methodology
steps to assist in understanding the terminology of custom database software
methodologies.
